The Char Dham National Highway
It is a 4 lane, 889 Km national highway project to connect four Hindu holy sites namely Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri in the state of Uttarakhand with investment of 12000 crores.
- The Char Dham Corridor is an important road project to build a 889(552 miles) km all-weather road network to connect the four holy Hindu pilgrimages Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath in the state of Uttarakhand.
- Total investment of the "Char Dham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojana" is estimated to be 12000 crores, will be maintained by NHAI.
- The project involves widening and developing National Highways, aims at boosting religious tourism. It involves upgrading approx. 825 km of National Highways.
- It is a 4 lane national highway with a minimum width of 10 mtrs.
- Current status: large segment of 825 km project have been completed. There is occasional delay owing to land acquisition, extreme weather conditions, landslides, forest clearances etc.
- The foundation stone of The Char Dham National Highway was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2016.
- The Char Dham National Highway will connect Delhi–Dehradun Expressway on its southern end to India-China Border Roads on its northern ends.
